Longan biochar is Rak Din's "hometown" biochar. We are located in Phrao District, Thailand's longan capital. When the crop is in and everyone has had a rest, we begin pruning our longan trees. Just one rai of trees (25 trees, generates 1.25 tons of branches. Multiply that times several hundred thousand rai and you have a lot of wood! Before Rak Din, pruners just burned the branches, sending clouds of smoke into the sky. Today, they load the branches into trucks and haul them to Rak Din where we buy them. We are happy - longan wood makes great biochar - and the pruners are happy because they make extra money every day!
