Application as Soil Amendment
Method of Use as Soil Amendment
Alternative Uses
Storage
- May be surface dressed or placed in planting hole. In most Thai soils, good results can be achieved with 250 g/m2. In badly damaged soils, good results will be observed at 125 g/m2. Optimal application – which can be reached over years – is 1 kg/m2.
- Especially effective in hard, clay, degraded soils, but also highly effective in sandy soils (nutrient and water retention) polluted soils (toxin removal) and acid soils (for example, forest coffee soils).
Method of Use as Soil Amendment
- Do not use with standing crops or immediately before planting. Best mixed with organic matter (compost or manure). Saturate with cow, horse or pig urine (if available to increase N, P and K) and spray with EM (if available). Mix well and allow to rest for several days. For use with rice, mix 80:20 biochar to organic matter. Best broadcast immediately before transplanting at application of 250 g biochar/m2. Push bundles of seedlings down through the biochar when planting. For use with corn or row crops, place handful of 50:50 mix at bottom of planting hole, cover with dirt, add seeds and close hole.
Alternative Uses
- Pure biochar can be used as a decontaminant, a deodorant, a desiccant and a food preservative.

Application
Alternative applications
Storage
- Use as you would any charcoal – but without the guilt!
Alternative applications
- Biochar is a powerful deodorizer, desiccant and food preserver. Put a few of your briquettes in a nice basket on a high shelf and enjoy safe, clean air. Put one in your refrigerator and bye-bye fridge smell. Stick one in your vegetables and fruit draw and see how much fresher they stay!
Storage
- Seal both inner plastic bag and external bag tightly. Store in sunny, dry location. Warning: Biochar is so powerful that left out in normal weather, Rak Din briquettes will absorb moisture.
